THE BENEFITS OF FIBERGLASS DOORS

June 11th, 2008

THE BENEFITS OF FIBERGLASS DOORS

Fiberglass doors look and feel like wood but won’t crack, warp, scratch, peel, swell or expand like wood and are three times stronger than wood doors. They are also eight times tougher than vinyl doors and, unlike vinyl, can be painted. Fiberglass is now available for patio doors, French doors, and in garage doors, ensuring these doors will be free from warp and buckling. Fiberglass doors come in standard sizes and can also be customized to any height, width and thickness. Installation is relatively easy for an experienced do-it-yourself person, but experienced professionals are also available at local home improvement stores to handle the installation.

Fiberglass Doors

Fiberglass doors last longer than any other kind of door, but they do require some minor maintenance to maintain their beauty. Sunlight and exposure to the elements of nature will eventually impact the appearance of the finish applied to a fiberglass door, causing it not to look glossy. Its texture may also get a little rough, just as exposed wood does over time. In addition to selecting a wood stain that lasts longer, most fiberglass door manufacturers recommend applying a clear top coat finish for extra protection.
